It’s sort of a hidden minority in the U.S.: the deaf community. Like other minorities, it has a rich culture
that has been largely ignored by the hearing world. But new technology and attitudes are bringing the
two worlds closer together. Join expert Paula Matlins in exploring the wonderful world of deaf culture.
The course will be in the form of lectures, classroom discussion, sharing of experiences and experiential exercises and guest presenters. One book is assigned, and several movies and videos will be part of the course. Paula will share the sequence of reading and watching at the first class.
Assigned book:
Mask of Benevolence by Harlan Lane (Paperback is $14 on Amazon with the possibility of hardcover. Also check public library copies to borrow through Minerva and MaineCat.)
Openings are available to all MSCN members who will need to contact Sheila at pvscmaine@gmail.com with your name, mailing and email addresses, phone number and name of your senior colleg. Your PVSC membership adjusted, and then you will be able to either register online or mail a check.
