Systemic Racism in the Criminal Justice System

The last year has opened all our eyes to the systemic racism in our country. This course will discuss how racism intentionally permeates every step of the criminal justice system. Who is stopped? Why do people of color receive harsher sentences? What can we do to change? Lenny will bring in various participants i.e. judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers, cops, people of color who have been part of the criminal justice system to present a broader and more personal look at the issues.

Instructor: Lenny Sharon Lenny is a lawyer who has been railing against the systemic racism in the criminal justice system, fighting in courts all over the county for fifty years. He also serves part-time as an appellate judge for the Penobscot Tribal Court system. 4 Wednesdays, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Beginning Mar. 31, 2021 Course Limit: 20
