Course Description:
Enheduanna affixed her name to the oldest (to date) literature in the Western canon. She wrote The Daughter of Sargon of Agade, the conqueror of Sume, as well as the first “signed” poems that exist.
Enheduanna was named high priestess of ancient Sumer, the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers (Genesis’ Eden). We will look at how these ancient materials influenced some of the most influential literature of Western civilization and introduced our most ancient motifs, such as the Great Flood, the Tower of Babel, the Garden of Eden, and the Serpent in the Garden.
Materials will include extensive slides and literature which will be shared well in advance of each class.
