AGING : The psychology and emotions of aging – on Zoom

Host: Elizabeth Housewright

Those of us who joined last month’s Aging Chat found this to be a wonderful conversation and we had a request to continue these chats with a focus on more specific areas one might or have encountered. Our lives change significantly as we age in many ways. So, let’s talk about those changes. It comes in a variety of forms. Social and emotional experiences change with age.

February 8, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Madgab – On Zoom

Host: Star Pelsue

The game takes well-known phrases but completely changes the words in that saying and turns it into a completely nonsensical sentence. Players will need to think outside the box when hearing certain words to figure out what they could possibly mean. The key to understanding Mad Gab is about what you hear as opposed to what the other players are saying. Example the host will say – “Heaven Nice Hay” then you figure out the true phrase

Answer - Have a nice day

February 9, 4:00- 5:00 PM

FOOD IS LOVE: GRANDMOTHER’S IN THE KITCHEN special guest Michele Corry, owner of 555, and her husband, Steven

To mark Valentine’s Day, let’s talk about all the love grandmothers show when they feed us. Many famous chefs unabashedly attribute their desire to feed people to their grandmother and her cooking which showed them what love looked like. So we’ll be joined by Michele Corry, owner of the former 555 restaurant in Portland and a second one still open named in honor of her own grandmother: Petite Jacqueline. Do we remember our grandmother’s feeding us love? Which of their recipes do we still use? Do we feed that to our own grandchildren? Join us to feed the love.

“I Was A Stranger and You Welcomed Me” Malcolm tells the story of how his parents and their friends sponsored three Vietnamese refugees, in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. And wonders: do we underestimate the value of ordinary acts of kindness?
