Dr. Andrew (Drew) Barton, professor of biology at the University of Maine at Farmington, recently delivered a passionate and engaging presentation on March 11, 2026. His talk provided Gold LEAF Institute members with a deeper understanding of wildfire ecology and the growing risks associated with wildfire in the United States and Maine.

Dr. Barton highlighted how states and communities can work together to reduce accidental fires through increased public awareness, improved infrastructure, and the responsible use of prescribed burns. His enthusiasm and expertise helped attendees better appreciate both the challenges and the proactive solutions available for managing wildfire risk.
