New Course: 1939 - Hollywood's Greatest Year

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at USM will offer "1939 - Hollywood's Greatest Year" through Zoom on Wednesday mornings from March 15 to May 5.

When you talk about 1939 in Hollywood, people automatically think of Gone With the Wind or The Wizard of Oz - but there were over 350 movies released that year, most still watched today, and 5 of which are in the American Film Institute's top 100 films of all time!

In class, we will discuss what made 1939 so unique, what was happening in the creative arts at the time, as well as the looming antitrust suits that would change Hollywood forever. In addition, we will watch two films (TBD) from that year.

To register, please email the completed OLLI Registration Form to olliatusm@maine.edu. Be sure to mention that you are a Maine Senior College member (OLLI Membership is not necessary). Email olliatusm@maine.edu if you have any questions.
