The Maine Senior College Network has announced that its annual conference, “Meeting of the Minds, 2005” will be held November 6-8 at the Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center located at Sunday River in Bethel Maine.  Our local hosts, the Western Mountain Senior College in Bethel, join with the Network to extend a special invitation to the leadership and membership of Maine’s 15 Senior Colleges to attend. All Senior College members are eligible to participate in the conference and will be sent registration information in mid-September.
The annual conference brings together the membership of all the senior colleges in the state to participate in enriching classes as Senior Scholars. Those who wish to participate should be current members of OLLI at USM or any Maine Senior College.  During the three-day program, Senior Scholars may choose from among class sessions taught by selected Senior College faculty from around the state. Session options include: A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls, Nonverbal Behavior, Ironclads and Torpedoes, How to Read a Faulkner Short Story, Opera in the Movies, Socrates Café, Qi Gong, Sullivan and Gilbert:  An Uneasy Alliance, Ralph and Henry, and Math Games.
Additionally, the November conference is a resource for the state’s leaders to engage in lively discussion and sharing of ideas on how to manage their programs.  Leaders will meet and exchange information in interactive workshops on Working with Volunteers, Faculty Recruitment and Development, and Building Membership. During Case Studies, they will examine Board Leadership Development and Marketing Communications.  In addition, conference presenters from across the state will discuss programming ideas including new course formats, community outreach, and community building.
